Italian soccer has not kept up with many other leagues around the world in terms of new stadiums opening up in recent decades, but that’s now starting to change with the new Juventus stadium set to open in September. On a smaller scale, Palermo’s President Maurizio Zamparini recently unveiled proposals for a new stadium - Stadio di Palermo – for the Sicilian club, one that would be owned by the team: like many Italian clubs, Palermo currently play at a municipal venue, the 36,340 capacity Stadio Renzo Barbera. Here is Zamparini’s proposed dream home for Palermo:
The new stadium would be a similar size to Palermo’s current digs as it would hold 35,000, which seems about right for the Serie A club. Palermo averaged 23,526 last season – ranking eighth in Serie A, perhaps surprisingly – and should have no problem filling a modern stadium like Stadio di Palermo should it get built. We’ll keep you updated on its progress, but for now, enjoy some more renderings.

wow! looks fantastic…. if Zampa can pull off this would be his greatest move for the club ever.
